Re: Why flash files not view ?

It could be an IIS problem. Flash from the HowTo course seems to work fine on our apache based systems.

    1. I suggest using Apache instead of IIS.

    2. Try moving your content directory inside ATutor to see if that helps.

Re: Why flash files not view ?

The flash on the demo site works fine, which make me suspect the system you are viewing from does not have a flash player installed.

Re: Why flash files not view ?

I have tested this on both windows and linux, in IE, firefox, and mozilla, and they all have no problem playing flash. I have attached a content package for you to import into your ATutor system. I know the flash in this package work.

Re: Why flash files not view ?

Download the content package attached above, and use it as an example. It uses swf file, but it works the same way for flv files.

Re: Why flash files not view ?

user "Most" is right, many diferent flash presentations over internet explorer 6 and mozilla firefox don't work, I thought it was my server or my webbrowser but I've experienced the same problem in some computers, even outside our campus with the atutor demo located in http://www.atutor.ca/atutor/demo/content.php?cid=6518 . The problem started when we and our students at home updated adobe flash player to version 9 in ms internet explorer. Thanks Greg for your answer.

Re: Why flash files not view ?

It does seem to be a problem with the mozilla/firefox plugin, but it seems to be okay when using the plugin with IE.

This would be an issue to take up with the Flash people. It does not have anything to do with ATutor.

Re: Why flash files not view ?

I have tried several times to point my installation of ATutor at my SWF content. I have used simple embed tags, the install shockwave content button on the toolbar of the page editor in ATutor, copying and pasting the compiled HTML for the container page generated by my Flash aps (Captivate and SWISH), linking to the content in the File Manager directory for the courses.

None of the above attemps has worked.

    Please could you help?

    Thanks,

    Operating system Linux
    Kernel version 2.6.19.2-grsec-sg5
    Machine Type i686
    Apache version 1.3.37 (Unix)
    PERL version 5.8.8
    Path to PERL /usr/bin/perl
    Path to sendmail /usr/sbin/sendmail
Installed Perl Modules Click to View
    PHP version 5.0.5

Re: Why flash files not view ?

See the Flash and Object Embedding exmaple in the demo course.
    http://www.atutor.ca/atutor/demo.php

My guess is the path to the Flash file has not been properly defined. normally it is a relative path such as "flash/my_flash.swf", where "flash" is a directory at the top level of the course file manager.

Re: Why flash files not view ?

I found the problem. The solution is simple. You were right, but here are some additional details:

1-ATutor creates courses that are numbered in order of creation. These courses make directories 1,2,3 etc. The home directory is actual one of these numbers and should be included in the path to the .swf.

2-Windows users remember Linux doesn't like long file names. No spaces in the file names.

3-You don't really need to use the HTML from the .swf output of your Flash app. Just import the content (.swf file) into the File Manager for the course, skip the HTML files. Then use the Graphic HTML editor Flash icon to insert the .swf, be sure and us the number [1/yourfile.swf].

That's it. Worked for me, I hope it'll help you.
