    When I try to import ATutor_HowTo_1.2.zip to a newly created course I am met with "Abort pclzip.lib.php : Missing zlib extensions".

    Why?

    compile php with zlib

    Sounds like php has not been compiled with zlib support. When installing php add "--with-zlib" to the configure command.
