Sorry! It's my mistake! Please refer to the messege as below:

    Things to describe:
operating system - Windows XP Professional SP2
version of ATutor - Atutor 1.4.3 only
    versions of php - 4.3.8
    version of mysq l - 4.0.20
webserver & version - Apache Web Server Version 1.3.31
copies of error messages - [red]Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in d:\appserv\www\atutor\tools\ims\ims_export.php on line 70[/red]
changes to default settings - [red]Just install on my desktop (localhost), did not change anything[/red]
web browser being used - IE 6.0 SP2
and anything else relevant - Just done the full service packs of Windows XP Professional.

I exported the Atutor HowTo Course from this site and imported into my localhost for the practice purpose. Then I tried to make a translation for one paragraph and tried to export.... It show the Fetal ERROR....
Then I open an new course and set it as a public course, and tried to import the original from this site, it's great! But I failed to export (same Fetal ERROR) even I had changed nothing.
I had tried the same actions in my office computer under Windows 2K Server SP4, I got the same result as above.

What could be the possible reason during my installation or configuration?

I must say sorry for my poor English. Should there be anything mannerless, please do not hesitate to contact me at any time.

    Best regards,
    Augustus Hsieh

    Let us see

I don't see anything in your description that might suggest what the problem is. Are you able to give us access to your installation to have a look. With an admin account.

  • 2005-03-21 20:19:09

OK! I will inform you later.

    Thanks! Greg!

Since I installed on my home computer, there is non-fixed IP for your connection. I just try to learn how to use Atutor as previous description.

I will re-install a clean version in my office, then I will inform you. But currently I don't want to expose my company's IPs on Internet. How could I inform you via e-mail?

Please send me an e-mail to tell me. Thanks!

Solved! but have the new question....

    Dear Greg,

Sorry! I did not inform you, as I have found what is the actual reason and solved it yesterday.

[red] The reason and HowTo Solve:[/red]
The actual Reason is: when I config a new course, I define the course property ==> Primary Languange ==> Traditional Chinese.
But the course you defined in your site is English. Therefore, when I import the IMS/SCORM .zip file into my Atutuor site, no wonder that when I entered the course (by my another testing account) it alsways show in English (even I have defined it as Traditional Chinese).
Thus, it caused EXPORT-ERROR problem until I re-define the Primary Language as English.

    [Green]The New Question[/Green]
If I use Atutor in my company and there are our several sites in diferent countries by local languange. It might cause the problems while we ask the local stuffs to translate the content into local Language.[red]How could we solve this new problem?[/red]

Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Should you have any further question, please do not hesitate to contact me at any time.

    Best regards,
    Augustus Hsieh

    Translating to UTF-8

I'm not sure I understand what you are asking.

Coverting languages you are using into UTF-8 would be the best choice for cross language compatibility. Though there would be some effort involve on your part, fixing the language that breaks when the character set is changed.

I suggest you experiment and see if there are problems with importing content of one language into a system displayed in another language, and document what happens.

See the language section of the current ATutor HowTo course for further details.

    Move course then export

The IMS export is not working for that course for some reason. I have moved the course using and upoloaded backup into a course called "test". From there it exports as it should.

    Cannot understand well

    Dear Greg,

Sorry for my poor English again! I cannot fully understand what you mean.

[red]Did you mean that we CANNOT export the original one directly? [/red]That is to say: we MUST ---
    [red]STEP 1. [/red] Move the course USING ! (???)
[green]STEP 2. [/green] Using the admin account to backup the course.
[red]STEP 3.[/red] Create another course ([blue]maybe in another site or the same site[/blue]) then upload the backup file ! (???)

Create a backup and move the course

-Create a backup of the course you are referring to
    -Download the backup
-Create a new course (on the same site)
-Upload the backup to the new course
-Restore the backup into the new course

Then use the Export tool to create an IMS content package.

this issue was fixed in 1.5, which will be released soon.

Adjust characters in language database field

Try changing the language_code field in the languages database of ATutor from 4 characters to 5 characters. Use an application like phpMyAdmin to do this easily. Since Chinese uses a language extension (e.g. zh-tw) that make the code five characters long, the code breaks when inserted into a field that only allows 4 characters.

Let us know if that helps.

  • 2005-03-29 20:07:32

    language_code

The language_code field is already using 5 characters length??
