How to Enable Course Tracking

How to Enable Course Tracking

I'm the system admin as well as an instructor.

When I click on Tools/MyTracker, I received the message:
"Tracking is not enabled for this course. Contact your system administrator to have it turned on."

How do I as sys admin enable course tracking?

I went through the entire HowTo Course, but I could not find any references as to HOW to turn it on, other than that it must be done by the administrator.

Thanks

Peter

Admin Courses Manager

Login to the administrator tools (/users/admin.php), choose "Courses" then click on a course name to display its properties. The tracker setting is in among the course properties.

Admin logins

Might I make a suggestion about logging in as the ATutor site administrator?
It took me a while to figure out that the login through the page /users/admin.php was not the same login as simply logging in as "admin", in the same way as you log in as any other user.
This seems to explain why you can't change basic site configurations, like changing the language or changing settings for courses, as the ordinary "admin" user.

The only way I found, after much trial and error, to get the appropriate login page was to login as any user including "admin", then without logging out , enter directly in the browser URL box the address indicated by greg:
//your_site_address/users/admin.php

You should get a different layout of the login page from normal, and then on entering "admin" and the password you set for this user, you should get the "real" page of the site administrator.

Have I got this right?

Modifications in order

I admit the admin user for both the administrator and the default user is a little confusing. Perhaps "admin" for the admin site, and "instructor" for the regular login. And, a different look for the two login screens shouldn't take much effort. It's on the list.

The way you logged into the administrator site is how its done. We created the two level login for added security. I see we need to make the process more obvious, and reword the Install instructions a little.

Admin login is documented in the HowTo course ( http://www.atutor.ca/atutor/docs/howto.php ) Administrators section. Browse through the course to learn more.

Re: How to Enable Course Tracking

I'm guessing you are logged in as an instructor. There is no tracking of instructors. You need to login as a student.

Re: How to Enable Course Tracking

No, I've created a student . I can't find where enroll the student to the course (the course result protected but the student logs and go on) and where enable or disable the course tracking.

Re: How to Enable Course Tracking

You are right the tracker preference (on/off) has gone missing in the last release, though it is still turned on by default so it should work without having to turn it on. I've tried it myself on a local installation and it seems to work okay.

To enroll, try entering the course. You'll either be stopped and asked to enroll if its a private course, or the will be a big link next to the course name "Enrol Me".

If you want to send us a URL and instructor and student account information, so we can have a look, use the Contact Us form through the About page

Re: How to Enable Course Tracking

Your tracker is working fine. You did not have any student accounts on the system. The info you sent me was the admin, and a course instructor. Login to the course with the new user I enrolled in the course

login b_bob
pass b_bob
