  ATutor theme name - students are using mobile on iPads, instructors using custom theme
  ATutor Version:
  2.1.1(unknown - 2013-07-16 09:38:08).
  PHP Version:
  5.2.17
  MySQL Version:
  OS:
  Linux 2.6.32-358.11.1.el6.nfsfixes.cve20132224.x86_64
  PHP version -
  MySQL version -
  Webserver & version -
  Copies of error messages -
  Changes to default settings -
  Web browser being used -

  My first suspicion is that cookies from an older version of ATutor are conflicting with those in the new version.
  
  To resolve the problem, users must dump any ATutor related cookies from their browser.
  
  I'd suggest testing this with one student who knows his/her way around iPad browser settings, to see if it fixes the problem. For an iPad, go into Settings>Safari then find Cookie options and delete cookies from there.
  
  If it does not help, try accessing ATutor with a different browser.

  should I delete older versions of ATutor from my hosting manager? The iPads were just purchased, so I'm not sure what they could have on them.
  What other browser would they use on an iPad?

  Firefox is available through the App Store if needed.
  
  If they were just purchased, then perhaps its probably not a cookie issue. Another thing you can try is increasing the timeout period in the ATutor System Preferences.
  
  Deleting old version of ATutor would not make a difference, though once you're sure your new version is working properly, and otherwise all in order, you can delete them.

  Yes, I had increased the timeout preference.
  Can some students be on firefox while others join by safari? Will that lesson the load on their wifi?

  firefox or safari should work equally well.
  
  wifi access should not be affected by the browser being used.
