    first time installing a web server and using ATutor

    Hi everybody

    It's the very first time i try to install a web server, and it doesn't seems to work.

    I tried with MAMP (http://www.mamp.info/en/index.html) to have an easy installation of apache, php and mysql server, then i tried to put the ATutor folder in the Mamp/htdocs folder (as suggested in the program documentation) but when i try to open the ATutor install page in my browser it say "Internal Error Detected. ATutor has detected an Error - Unable to connect to db".

    I have already tried to read the ATutor documentation, but i don't understand it.

    As you can immagine I really don't have any knowledge in web servers, php and mysql. If you can suggest me some web resources or books to help me understand something more it would be great.

    Operating system ATutor is installed on - Mac Osx 10.4.11
    ATutor version - 1.6.4
    Patch #s applied -
    ATutor theme name -
    PHP version - 5.3.2
    MySQL version - 5.1.44
    Webserver & version -
    Copies of error messages -
    Changes to default settings -
    Web browser being used - firefox 3.6.3

    Is your mysql server up and running? Start MAMP and see whether "MySql Server" light is green.

    yes...apache and mysql server are running (with green lights!)...

    Did you go thru the ATutor installation steps to install ATutor? ATutor database is created during installation. How did you "put the ATutor folder in the Mamp/htdocs folder"? unzipped the ATutor package to here or copied from elsewhere which installed before?

    please provide more details.

    I download "ATutor-1.6.4.tar.gz" file from the download pages here. then i unzipped with BOMArchiveHelper (default in Mac Osx 10.4.11) and dragged it in the folder of MAMP/htdocs...
    then I type http://localhost/Applications/MAMP/htdocs/ATutor/ and it says "ATutor has detected an Error - Unable to connect to db."
    maybe i don't install it, but i don't know how to do it.

    check this file:

    ATutor/include/config.inc.php

    If it does not exist, that's ok. If it's there, must be empty.
