  Things to describe:
  Operating system ATutor is installed on LINUX 2.6.17.7
  ATutor version - 1.6.3
  Patch #s applied - 1-4
  ATutor theme name - Clasiic 1.5, corporate blue, Fluid
  PHP version - 5.1.4
  MySQL version - 5.0.24 max. log
  Webserver & version - Unknown
  Copies of error messages - 0
  Changes to default settings - 0
  Web browser being used - IE Vers. 7-8, Firefox 3.5.1, Safari
  ...and anything else relevant -
  
  Problem description:
  
  After updating to 1.6.3 it is not possible to use the standard chat version in an efficient way. After activating the "Enter Chat" link, it takes about 3-5 minutes until the chat window is loaded. Especially the frame with the messages requires the most time for loading.
  
  After entering a message it takes 1-3 minutes until the message appears. In the setup all refresh-cycles are tested for improving the situations. The problem is independant of the number of participants in the chatroom or traffic on te server. I assume it is a problem of the server-setups done by our provider. Are there are any prerequistes for the setup of the standard chat?.

  I'm unable to reproduce the problem otherwise. Check your chat refresh settings. Open the chat and check Edit Preferences.

  It seems that the PHP files have problems for loading. The directories chat and tools are set to 755 RW status.
  
  Of course I tested the properties from 5 second to 180 second refresh period. No improvement. Does the chat module require any Java, cgi or Php.ini setups?

  I see the problem, but don't have an answer for you. It is not a problem anyone else has mentioned.
  
  My guess is it has something to do with writing to files. Writing seems to be happening, but very slowly.
  
  See if you are able to create new files with the File Manager. If creating a file takes a long time, that would provide more evidence that writing is a problem.

  thanks for your support. Creating folders and files works fast and perfect. So far I can't see relating problems. I tested out different RW rights for the frames which are used in the chat (display, prefs and poster) there is no improvement or worsening the situation. It is very disappointing not knowing the problem. But thanks anyway for the support.
