Transferring demographic questions to other courses

    Transferring demographic questions to other courses

    I ask the same basic demographic questions with each exam. Is it possible to transfer these questions to other courses? I find that I am creating these categories everytime I create a new course.

    It would help if I can re-use these questions automatically. Maybe I haven't read that part of the instructions, if any pertaining to this so any suggestions where to find the info would be great too.

    the easiest way is to create and restore a backup. go to manage -> backups -> create (and download). then manage -> backups -> upload in the new course.

    in most cases you only wish to restore test & surveys from the backup, and keep an eye on overwrite / append.

    Hi, so I would backup the whole course, or can I select just the certain category of questions such as demographics> then if I can select just this category, download this then upload this category to the new course?

    So, I would be able to transfer just the question category Demographics to a new course, and not the whole exam.

    Please correct me if my understanding is wrong. Thanks.

    In 1.6.1, you can only move questions (all of them at once) using a backup. In 1.6.2+ question and test exporting is available to export just certain tests or questions.

    Thanks, what is the best way to upgrade to 1.6.2?

    There are updates available when I log in as administrator but I don't know if I should click on all of them, and they would do to my courses, or if I need them at all?

    Are there any absolutely needed updates that I need to have before I update to 1.6.2?

    The upgrade instructions is the best place to start.

    If you are going to upgrade, wait a few weeks if you can. Version 1.6.3 is not far away.

    Read through the updates, and if there is anything that sounds familiar, install the corresponding patch. Backups of the updated files are created so you can revert from an update in the unlikely event something goes wrong, though you do need to know your way around ATutor database and the server. In any case you should install any security patches. The others you can probably leave if you're not experiencing any problems. If you upgrade, don't bother with the patches. They will all be included with the new version.

    Thanks, what is the easiest and safest way for me to upgrade, since I don't know anything about programming?
