ATutor 162 on a stick

    ATutor 162 on a stick

I wanted to take on Gregs suggestion to update ATutor2Go, and have made a portable package of ATutor 1.6.2 (with all current patches) and xampplite for Windows.

The package can be downloaded here:
    http://www.rosetta.no/demofiler/atutor-oas.zip

If someone would like to test it I would be greatful for any comments whatsoever.

    Hello eviking

I have been installing your package on a stick and also on a couple og hard drives and I must say that it is working very well.

However - one of my PC's, where I have installed the package on the hard drive, will not start the Apache Web Server. It simply says that it cannot find the php5apache2_2.dll eventhough it is there in the filesystem.
The PC has been formatted and XP installed with the sole purpose to test out Atutor.
If I use your package on a stick it does not work eiter.

    Have you any ideas?

    Best

If you are asking for help, provide lots of detail so problems can be reproduced.

    Things to describe:
Operating system ATutor is installed on - XP incl. service pack 3
    ATutor version -
    Patch #s applied -
    ATutor theme name -
    PHP version -
    MySQL version -
    Webserver & version -
    Copies of error messages -
    Changes to default settings -
Web browser being used - Firefox
    ...and anything else relevant -

Re: ATutor 1.6.2 on a stick

    Hello,

I used full XAMPP and installed it and ATutor on USB flash without any glitches or difficulties. Since current USB sticks are of sufficient storage capacity I prefer to use full XAMPP.
I installed it on 512 MB USB Stick without any issues and it takes approx 230 MB so full 270 is left for data which is I guess more than enough for everyone. Indeed, rager capacity USB sticks are even more convenient.
If needed I can write manual how to do it.

    Best wishes,

    Vedran

Re: ATutor 1.6.2 on a stick

    Oerving,

You say you have installed the package on the hard drive:

Is it installed in a top level folder, for example c:\xampplite ?

It will not work properly if it is installed in a sub folder, for example:

    c:\programfiles\xampplite

Re: ATutor 1.6.2 on a stick

    Hi eviking

Yeps - I have installed the whole package in the root folder as unpacked by the zip utility.

I will try to reinstall XP without any SP in order to see if this helps.

Re: ATutor 1.6.2 on a stick

    Hi eviking

Reinstall of XP did not work but maybe the problem is memory. The PC has only 256MB RAM.
    Could it be the problem?

Re: ATutor 1.6.2 on a stick

When I started it from USB stick which means that it is installed on USB I did not have special problems. If it is USB 1.1 connector it may be a bit slow.
Hoowever, it may depend on CPU and RAM, but more is always better.

Please experiment withvarious machines and you will notice difference.

    Best wishes,

Re: ATutor 1.6.2 on a stick

Is anyone interested in creating a portable version of ATutor 1.6.3?

    Perhaps start a Sourceforge project?
