    Help installing patches in 162

Hello. I've tried to install the patches for the newly released 1.6.2 version and I keep getting this error AFTER I chmodded the appropriate files and directories....

" Unknown column 'author' in 'field list' "

Any idea how I deal with this?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

Is your 1.6.2 fresh installed or upgrade from older version? if upgrade, which version do u upgrade from?

    Thanks.

Re: Help installing patches in 1.6.2

I had 1.6.1 installed about a month ago. I tested some features on 1.6.1 like gradebook and making up some assignments and user groups, etc. Just to test things out.

But then a couple days ago, I deleted it on my webhost account in order to do a fresh install of 1.6.2. My webhost helped me install 1.6.2, which should have been a fresh install. However, strangely enough, the demo stuff from 1.6.1 was still there after 1.6.2 was installed.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

Re: Help installing patches in 1.6.2

This error is caused the by the missing field "author" in table "patches".

From what you specified, the reasons might be: 1.6.2 could be using the database created by 1.6.1. They should be using the different databases though. While 1.6.1 exists and installing another fresh 1.6.2, pls specify a different database name at installation.

Re: Help installing patches in 1.6.2

So, do I have to do a completely fresh install of everything?

Or is there a way to keep some of the stuff I had in 1.6.1?

    Thanks for the help.

Re: Help installing patches in 1.6.2

In order to keep things in 1.6.1, upgrade it to 1.6.2 instead of another fresh install.

Re: Help installing patches in 1.6.2

Well, at this point I have 1.6.2 installed already, but it seems to still have some stuff from 1.6.1 as well.

Would it be cleaner at this point to just do a fresh install of 1.6.2? Or is there a way to specifically delete the things from 1.6.1 that are causing the error, but keep my classes info. that I set up previously?

    Thanks again.

Re: Help installing patches in 1.6.2

It seems you've installed where should have upgraded. This will break things in your database.

I'd say you're better off to start over with a fresh 1.6.2
