test question categories question

    test question categories question

    ATutor version 1.6.1

before I get into a modification, I was wondering why the stock ATutor system filters test question categories by course id. Since it's a question database, I'd like to be able to show all existing categories when adding questions to a new test, but, since you guys built it, there may be a reason I don't yet see.

    Thanks,
    Mike

    Re: test question categories question

Questions and question categories are associated with courses. For smaller installations it might be desirable to have questions in the question db available across all courses, but in most cases making questions public to an entire ATutor system is not desirable.

If you want to make modifications to this, adding a "public" property to test questions, and perhaps question categories, might be a useful addition.

    Re: test question categories question

Thanks Greg. We're going to give it a go with all questions in the question db available across all courses, given the nature of our usage.

    Thanks for the feedback!

    Happy holidays.

    Re: test question categories question

You'll want to create a patch using the Patcher. If you can build the public option into questions, and maintain the option to keep questions private, we'll consider adding this to the ATutor source code.

Or, you can maintain the patch for future upgrades, so you can reapply the changes when you upgrade your system.

    Re: test question categories question

good idea. I'll read the docs for the Patcher and will get to work.

If you have any ideas you'd like to see incorporated into this patch, let me know.

    Thanks again.

    Re: test question categories question

actually, we've changed our minds about that. With multiple domains and instructors in some of them, the permissions bit would have been more time-consuming to code than it was worth.

    Thanks for the feedback, though.
