Archiving forumsthreads cant see an archive link

    operating system - Linux 2.6.23.14
    version of ATutor - 1.6.1.
    versions of php - 5.2.5
    version of mysql - 4.1.22-standard-log
webserver & version - (not sure about this)
    your ATutor location- unk.com/lab

    Hello

We have a new course starting on Wednesday and would like to archive the course forums from the last time we ran it, so we can start a fresh.

I'm told we just need to go into the course forums (logged in as admin) and just click the 'archive' link but it seems to have disappeared or I am doing it wrong.

How do I go about doing this?

    Thank you,
    Rury

Re: Archiving forums/threads - can't see an archive link?

If its not already installed, you will need to install the Forum Archiver module. You'll need admin access for that. The module can be downloaded from the atutor.ca site.

    Hey Greg

I just installed the module and when I go to 'Manage' and 'Export Forums' it just takes me to a blank page at http://www.unk.com/lab/mods/farchive/index_instructor.php

Have I installed it wrong do you think?

    Cheers,
    Rury

Re: Archiving forums/threads - can't see an archive link?

I can't say what the problem is. I just installed it in again on my local system, and it seems to work fine.

Along with the other issues you are experiencing, this could add to the evidence. We've seen before where providers do not allow Web directories to be writable, and will change permissions on writable directories without informing the account holder. What you've been describing, here and with Harris, suggests that's what might be happening.

We will get onto your server today, when your tickets are ready, but if it turns out permissions on the ATutor content directory are being reset, that will be something you need to take up with your provider. Some providers will refuse to allow file uploads, in which case your only option may be to move to another provider that is not so precautious.

Re: Archiving forums/threads - can't see an archive link?

That's rather odd because we've been with our provider for a while now and they've never had a problem with file uploads and the like.

We just purchased a 3 pack support ticket. If we could discuss the issues over email that would be great.

As for dealing with our provider, they usually respond to ticket requests within 5 minutes, they're very good.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Thanks,
    Rury

Re: Archiving forums/threads - can't see an archive link?

What's happened in your case is the path to the content directory in the configuration file was changed, and the trailing slash was left off.

Someone has also changed the ownership of all the content files. They need to be owned by the Webserver user, usually "nobody", or "apache." The content directory itself should be owned by the shell user account and be writable (777) but everything inside the directory should belong to the webserver.

There are also some functions being blocked that will prevent the chat from functioning. Tell your provider that the chmod() function has been disabled, and needs to be turned on for the chat to function.
