    alteration fail in upgrade from 15 to 161

    I used upgrade from 1.5 to 1.6.1 but some alteration failed,here is the list:
    Error

    * Table AT_groups alteration failed.
    * Table AT_resource_categories alteration failed.
    * Table AT_links_categories alteration failed.
    * Table AT_resource_links alteration failed.
    * Table AT_links alteration failed.
    other alterations done succesfully
    I use farsi language in Atutor,is it for that?
    so what's the solution?

    Re: alteration fail in upgrade from 1.5 to 1.6.1

    The upgrade from 1.5 to 1.6.1 seems to be working fine when we just tested it locally.

    Does your database user have ALTER table permission?

    Have you made any changes to the tables listed above?

  • 2008-07-23 01:16:10

    Re: alteration fail in upgrade from 1.5 to 1.6.1

    only these alterations failed so i think if it could alter others it has permissions.
    No we didn't make any change to tables.
    can I send these tables to u to see what's the problem,I need to upgrade really!
    thanks

    Re: alteration fail in upgrade from 1.5 to 1.6.1

    Hello,

    I have just tried an upgrade from 1.5.0 to 1.6.1, and I don't see your errors.

    Try restoring your database and update again. You might have refreshed your browser and made the installer to update your database for the second time.

    Re: alteration fail in upgrade from 1.5 to 1.6.1

    yes without farsi language and my own database content (I mean with an empty database) I also can upgrade,but with farsi and with my database it has problem
    no I don't refresh my database! It cause errors at first upgrade attempt.
    can I send anything to u for more help? e.g. my database or something else?
    regard

    Re: alteration fail in upgrade from 1.5 to 1.6.1

    Try converting a couple of your courses to UTF-8 manually with the conversion utility, and let us know what happens. Perhaps the conversion utility in ATutor, the same as atutor.ca, is having trouble with the old farsi character set.

    Re: alteration fail in upgrade from 1.5 to 1.6.1

    I use this zip file for conversion tools but it said :
    "No file selected. Only ZIP files are allowed. Must be named atutor_version.zip"

  • 2008-07-29 10:25:26

    Re: alteration fail in upgrade from 1.5 to 1.6.1

    There is nothing in the zip file.

    Install the UTF-8 conversion module on your system, and use it to convert content.

    Re: alteration fail in upgrade from 1.5 to 1.6.1

    I tried to install it but I can't
    when I used index.php on my browser it did not do any action and said Done!
    please help me for installing it
    does it need any change on index.php for AT_INCLUDE_PATH which is define to '../../include/' ?

  • 2008-08-02 09:20:02

    Re: alteration fail in upgrade from 1.5 to 1.6.1

    You should not need to change anything to install the module. It should install like any other module.

    See the install screen for the module for system requirements.

  • 2008-08-04 00:42:32

    Re: alteration fail in upgrade from 1.5 to 1.6.1

    I can't use this module because I use 1.5.0 version of atutor,I use www.atutor.ca/atutor/translate/convert.php and get atutor_1_5_fa_utf-8 but it didn't solve the problem.
    Something interesting is that the AT_groups table which upgrade process failed to alter is totaly empty,so I think it's not about UTF8.

    Re: alteration fail in upgrade from 1.5 to 1.6.1

    Right :-( You're using 1.5.

    Were you able to restore the system back to 1.5?

    If yes, from the original 1.5, try upgrading to 1.5.5. If that works, then try upgrading to 1.6.1. You can find older versions of ATutor at sourceforge.net

    Re: alteration fail in upgrade from 1.5 to 1.6.1

    I wanna use another method for upgrade
    backup existing database (version 1.5)
    fresh install (version 1.6.1)
    manual copy data from old database to new database using sql cammands
    does it work?

    for those fields which their type is utf8 in 1.6.1 and was not utf8 in 1.5 what should I do,I think using sql command for transfer data from old database to new one isn't enough?

    upgrading from 1.5 to 1.5.5 causes errors too
    I wonder 1st in feedback it said e.g. "Table AT_members altered successfully." then in error list it said 2 times "Table AT_members alteration failed."
    I attach feedback and errors which I got
    what's the problem?

    Re: alteration fail in upgrade from 1.5 to 1.6.1

    It appears to me that your table structure is not of 1.5. It seems like it has been upgraded before or some sort.

    Please replace this file into your 1.6.1's
    install/db

    And try upgrading your 1.5 to 1.6.1 again, tell me how it goes.

    Re: alteration fail in upgrade from 1.5 to 1.6.1

    unfotunately it gave same error:

    * Table AT_groups alteration failed.
    * Table AT_resource_categories alteration failed.
    * Table AT_links_categories alteration failed.
    * Table AT_resource_links alteration failed.
    * Table AT_links alteration failed.

    Re: alteration fail in upgrade from 1.5 to 1.6.1

    When you did your upgrade from atutor 1.5 to 1.6.1, did you put the ATutor_161 in the same level as ATutor_15?

    C:\xampp\htdocs\ATutor_15 <-- old one
    C:\xampp\htdocs\ATutor_161 <-- new one

    Then, run localhost/ATutor_161
    And choose "Upgrade".

    Re: alteration fail in upgrade from 1.5 to 1.6.1

    If this is an IIS system, check your /include/config.inc.php

    Make sure the AT_CONTENT_DIR is setup correctly.

    On windows, it could be the case that you have to use double slashes like this:

    define('AT_CONTENT_DIR', 'C:\\xampp\\htdocs\\ATutor_161\\content\\');

    Is the config file readable? Also, the content folder has to be set to 777

    That error will occur when ATutor cannot find the content folder.

    1.6.1 should convert them during one of the upgrade step. It should tell you that each course has its associated language (which is set inside the course property - primary language), and then from there, the upgrade step will convert all the contents to UTF8.

    Yes, copy them manually over please. We are investigating the reason that causes this problem on some of the installations.

    Re: alteration fail in upgrade from 1.5 to 1.6.1

    Were your courses' primary language all set to Farsi? If not, it will assume it's converting from the default to UTF-8, which is English in this case.

  • 2008-08-25 16:30:35

    Re: alteration fail in upgrade from 1.5 to 1.6.1

    I don't understand your question,I mean how it should be set to Farsi? anyway before converting process it recognize each char-set, such as 8859,etc
    does it help?

  • 2008-08-25 16:38:30

    Re: alteration fail in upgrade from 1.5 to 1.6.1

    Oh, log in as Instructor -> Pick a course -> Manage -> Primary Language

    Choose the language for this course, Farsi, for your case.

    Then, during the upgrade step, it will treat all the content related to this course as Farsi character for the conversion.

    ISO-8859-1 is the charset for English.

    Re: alteration fail in upgrade from 1.5 to 1.6.1

    some course's Primary Language before upgrade was Farsi but 1.6.1 make them unreadable.
    of course some user names are unreadable
    what can I do?

  • 2008-08-26 09:59:20

    Re: alteration fail in upgrade from 1.5 to 1.6.1

    It could be that the content wasn't saved in the Farsi char-set at that time. You will have to try and find out which char-set the contents was saved in to convert it correctly. If nothing works, I afraid you will have to copy and paste the content over to the new system.

    If you have a 1.5 course backup that has Farsi content in it, I can try importing onto my local 1.5 and see what the problem is.

    As for user names, unfortunately, there is no way to convert it because we don't have an algorithm to determine which language each individual user is using. So, the user will have to change their own first name, last name themselves under 1.6.1.

    Re: alteration fail in upgrade from 1.5 to 1.6.1

    I have this problem during upgrade from 1.5.5 to 1.6.1 with farsi contents.
    I think the best way is to change the encoding of the data manually. Do the following steps:
    1.use phpMyAmin to export your database data
    2.open the dump file in UltraEdit editor and change the encoding by File->Conversion ->"utf8 to Unicode" convert it again to "Unicode to utf8( ASCII editing)" and save the dump file.
    3.open the dump file with notepad to sure about the true conversion. Farsi characters should be readable in notepad.
    4. empty your tables and import the dump file into the database.
    Note: be sure that your database default "character set" set to utf8.
    I hope it will be useful.

  • 2008-08-27 08:43:39

    Re: alteration fail in upgrade from 1.5 to 1.6.1

    This may work, though you should not open the file in Notepad. It has a tendency to add in invisible foreign characters that will break the display when viewed in ATutor.
