I want to modify the templates

I want to modify the templates

I want to modify the templates but I can't seem to find the documentation that explains the template files.

How would I go about adding Google ads (or any other table based HTML) to the templates? I'm not sure which files I should edit.

I am good with HTML but I'm not used to working with template code

Could someone tell me which files I should edit or better yet post their updated source as an example? I normally use tables to position ads on my site.

    1. I want to add a horizontal banner in the footer of every page before the language options.
    2. I'd like to add a square ad below the course side menu bar or better yet between the main content links and the other tables.
    3. I'd like to add an ad right below the main horizontal menu.

    thanks in advance

Re: I want to modify the templates

You'll find documentation in the themes_readme.txt file in the themes directory. Or, on the wiki, linked below.

    http://wiki.atutor.ca/display/atutorwiki/Creating+Custom+Themes

The top an bottom banners edit the header and footer files in the default theme. For the side menu, you'll need to create a module with just a side menu box. See the module developer documentation for info about that.

Thank you Greg, I'll read that Wiki page and I'll try to create a module.
