Adding scorm package to a lesson

Things to describe:
version of ATutor - 1.5.4

I am newbie, I had upload a scorm package. I can see it on the packages list and see a preview of this.
How can I add it to a lesson? I saw in docs that I must find a link (packages setings) but I cannot see on my interface :( onlytwo links are there [ Import Package * Delete Package]

Thx in advance,
Cipm

Re: Adding scorm package to a lesson

The SCORM RTE was create by ISN
http://www.isn.ethz.ch/

The original programmer has moved on. You might try contacting Alfred Kohnert. I understand he was the one who took over te project.

Re: Adding scorm package to a lesson

Ok. I'll use a content page with the link.. I thought that I made some mistakes on the ATutor installation and because of that I cannot see the settings link.
Thx again,

Re: Adding scorm package to a lesson

Hi all,

I am new to ATutor and my role for this CMS is an instructor.

Things to describe:
operating system -Windows XP
version of ATutor -
versions of php -
version of mysq l -
webserver & version -
copies of error messages -
changes to default settings -
web browser being used - Firefox

I have tried to import a SCORM 2.1 package to a new course at ATutor, but in vain.

Let me describe what I was doing:

1. I selected "Import content" -> 1. Welcome to ATutor

2. Upload a content package

3. Click "Import"

4. A small pop up window appears which says 'file upload in progress' and closes after a while.

5. I got a message: "Action completely successfully.

6. When I went to "1. Welcome to ATutor", I got a message:

"This is just a blank content page. Use the Edit Content link to edit this page. You can manage this course by accessing the Manage section."

What is wrong with this? Does this mean that there might not be a SCORM module at ATutor? Only the administrator can see the listed installed modules?

Please help me!

Thank you,
Kristy

Re: Adding scorm package to a lesson

I forgot to add something to my previous message.

I had tested the same SCORM 2.1 package at Moodle and it worked fine.

Thank you,
Krystallo

Re: Adding scorm package to a lesson

The administrator needs to install the Packages module. You appear to importing a SCO, rather than a content package.

Once installed and enabled, go to

Manage>Packages

Re: Adding scorm package to a lesson

Hi Greg,

The administrator recently informed me that he has installed the Packages module. When I finished importing the SCORM 2.1 package (SCO), I got the message: "Action completed successfully." After that, I didn't see the SCORM package to appear in a web broswer at Tutor. Please advise me.

Thank you,
Krystallo

Re: Adding scorm package to a lesson

Did you turn on the Packages modules in

Manage>Student Tools

Re: Adding scorm package to a lesson

Hi Greg,

Thank you very much for your quick reply. Unfortunately, it still does not work.

I just got a reply from the administrator saying that he logged in with my account (Instructor account) and under Manage>Student Tools enabled the Packages in question.

When I tried to import the SCORM package into ATutor, I still could not see it in a web browser.

Also, I would like to show you a screenshot of Students Tools for my instructor account. Please see the attached screenshot. I am wondering whether there is an additional item for "import content". If so, does this mean that the administrator has to enable this new item?

Once again, thank you very much for your help. Please let me know.

Thanks,
Krystallo

Re: Adding scorm package to a lesson

Greg,

Please forget my previous message. When I tried to import the SCORM 2.1 package, I got an error message:

[AT_ERROR_SCORM_ITEM_SCORMTYPE_MISSING]

In this case, I accessed ATutor with an administrator account.

Like I said before, the same SCORM 2.1 package works fine at Moodle.

Thanks,
Krystallo

Re: Adding scorm package to a lesson

attach the package here if it is not too large, or provide a link so we can download it and test.

Re: Adding scorm package to a lesson

Greg,

Thank you for your input again. Please see the attached scorm 2.1 package. Like I said, I got the error message:

[AT_ERROR_SCORM_ITEM_SCORMTYPE_MISSING]

Thank you for testing the package. Please advise me.

Thanks,
Krystallo

Re: Adding scorm package to a lesson

What we have discovered is the filenames in the package have spaces in them, and replaced with urlencoded spaces (%20), which ATutor does not know how to handle.
<file href="C2%20Legislation%20for%20PWD%20in%20England.html" />
We've added a workaround to ATutor, which will be available in a patch soon. You can install it using the Patcher. In the meantime it is a good idea to create file names without spaces. On linux system (including Mac), the spaces can be a problem, while windows it won't be. To keep your packages fully cross platform compatible, you should avoid spaces for your file names.

Re: Adding scorm package to a lesson

Greg Says:
- copy the link to a package into a content page.

Sorry Greg, I'm not sure what you mean. I have now uploaded a package. What do you mean by "copy the link to a package into a content page."

Could you lpease give me an example?

Re: Adding scorm package to a lesson

What exactly are you trying to do?

SCORM packages require the Packages module be installed. It should be relatively straight forward once installed. You add packages through the Packages tool, under the instructor's Manage tab.

Re: Adding scorm package to a lesson

I'm sorry, I still don't understand.

I have imported the package after enabling packages.

But I don't understand how to use the scorm package a my course. You say 'add a link to the package'. How do you 'add a link to the package'.

Re: Adding scorm package to a lesson

Ignore that statement. It's old.

When you've got the module installed, go to Packages under the Manage tab, then click on the handbook link for instructions.

Re: Adding scorm package to a lesson

In the manage section i see:

16: SCORM Packages
Import Package
Delete Package

These are three (underlined) links.

When I click On SCORM packages, I see my single package name. It too is a link.

I dont see any 'Settings Link' anywhere, or any way to include the package in my course content, or enable anything so that the package is seen as the content for my course.

When I click on my package name, there is no settings link either, nor any way I can see to make it available as content for my course.

What am I supposed to do, between the time that I import my sco, which i have done, and it becomes visible as (part of?) my course?

Re: Adding scorm package to a lesson

Settings is disabled until it can be fixed. The maintainer is no longer maintaining the module, and no one has offered to fund further development, so it will remain turned of for the near future.

If you want to hide the package, turn the package tool off in Student Tools until you are ready to make the package available.

Re: Adding scorm package to a lesson

So, the package is part of the course, but still I dont understand how I make the package visible by students of the course.

Back to the original question.. once I have uploaded the package, how do I i make it visible as part of the course that my student will see?

Do I creat content pages and link in the sco somehow, or is it supposed to do this automatically?

I think I have been asking the same thing from the beginning.. How so I set things up so he can see the package in the course?

I have uploaded the package, but how can the package be seen by the student?

• 2008-11-05 12:37:59

Re: Adding scorm package to a lesson

To make it visible, just turn on the Packages tool in Student Tools under the Manage tab, either adding it as a tab across the top with the rest of the tabs, or to the home page as a Package icon.

Students click the packages icon, and a list of available packages appear.
